WAIKATO BURN SUPPORT AG.M. Tuesday 3rd MAY 2005

PRESIDENT'S REPORT

Good evening and welcome to the Waikato Burn Support Annual General Meeting.

The year has come and gone before we have really had time to catch up with it all and for Waikato Burn Support it has been one of change.

Like the year I will try and keep this speech as short as possible.

Our main focus has been education - making as many people aware of the dangers that can cause burns and the life long effect to the burn survivor and their families.

This year we have upgraded some of our resources for the education programme with anThe Blue Whale investment in the bath thermometer, which has proved very useful in carrying our message home.  Hot water burns like fire.

Colleen Caldwell, our Education Officer, has worked hard to fulfil her contract with WBS and the MoH. Feedback from her education programme has been very encouraging. It is our responsibility to get the message out to the public with the main focus on schools. Thank you, Colleen, for the success you have made of your job. I think all of us know that if you save just one life, the work has been worthwhile.

We continue with our Annual School Poster Competition, an extension of the education programme within the schools. It is always successful with entries from most schools visited. This is another way in which the message is taken home and reinforces what the children have been taught and shown at school.

Colleen also attends community groups and other organizations when required, to present the education programme. Thank you Colleen for the tremendous effort you have put into your job and our group.

Unfortunately we have not been able to provide our family days or camp this year, but all our efforts have been to support our education programme, which has been done very successfully.

I would like to thank the committee, Pam Beehan treasurer, Robyn Smith Secretary, Christine Wilson Hospital Liaison Officer, Paul and our newest member, Vera. All have given of their time and knowledge.

Also to John Carlisle, who continues to look after our web site and Doug Hawkins our accountant. Many thanks for your continuing support.

Thank you all for your support over this past year and we look forward to the upcoming years activities.
