Well Team, we celebrate another successful year where, on
reflection we achieved quite a lot for such a small dedicated group.
Trish, as Field
Officer, had a busy year with 55
schools visited (Primary, Intermediate & High Schools) a
total of 6,679 school children spoken to, not including 10 Kindergartens with a total of 450 under 5 year olds along with her hospital visits,
speaking engagements and quarterly engagements with the Polytechnic Nursing
Students.![]()
We had four successful Family Days throughout the year, and finished with a good attendance at our annual Christmas Party at Innes Common.
In October we
sponsored a visit from Dominique Bossavy who is
a Reconstructive Dermal Pigmentation Specialist, who gave an enlightening
presentation and Trish received a new eyebrow that resulted in a half page
spread in the New Zealand Herald highlighting the enormous difference this
speciality can make.
The group contributed
towards a representative being present at the ANZBA
Conference in Perth and we participated in the production of a special
book for Ward 7 burn survivors to help them adjust and come to terms with
recovery from a burn related accident.
The year came to a close with a very successful camp at Karakariki over 2 ½ days with an attendance of 54 people. People joined in, watched or participated in all activities, which contributed to a great weekend enjoyed by all.
The
Annual Burn School
Poster Competition was organised and run throughout the region with very
satisfactory results. The winners
were posted on our web site and the associated schools were presented with a
cheque to acknowledge their support.
As we move into another
year we have purchased a new and larger vehicle for Trish to
continue her work,
which will allow her to transport our displays and equipment much more easily.
Changes are taking place with Lyn stepping down as Treasurer, however, we are glad to say she has indicated a desire to remain active on the Board. We thank her for her efforts over the past year and look forward to continuing to work with her in other capacities. Our incoming Treasurer is Pam Beehan, and we extend a warm welcome to her as takes up the Treasurers duties. Pam is no stranger to Burn Support having had an active interest in the work for many years.
We thank John for his untiring efforts as Secretary, his large contribution by setting up and maintaining our website, which seems to grow by the week. We thank Julie and Trish for organising the camp, also special mention to Ted Anderson who as Honorary Member and Special Project Convenor is helping set up the publication of a special burn prevention booklet to be distributed nationwide. Ted also acts in a consultancy capacity on a number of issues continuing to have major input in many areas.
In closing I would like to thank all the members of the Board for their commitment to the group for without that it would fail to function as well as it does.
The whole Board can look back with pride upon what we have achieved. Thanks again to you all for all efforts, large or small, they all count and build to the success and impact we have on the community at large.
Kind Regards,
Paul Evans-McLeod.
