Profile: Waikato Burn Support Officer - Voluntary
A. General Description:
To provide burn injured persons and their families throughout New
Zealand with support and assistance during
and after hospitalisation and assist them to return to normal lives within their
community and to liaise with and support initiatives by other
organisations within New Zealand linked to the activities of the Waikato
Burn Support Charitable Trust. (As per our Mission
Statement.)
B. Detailed Description:
- Visit Ward 7 at
Waikato Hospital on a weekly basis to offer support services to new
admissions and be available to assist those receiving treatment where
possible and as required.
- Be available to caregivers to offer advice and
assistance and referral services where appropriate and as required.
- Provide advice, counsel and support to burn survivors
as required to assist them to return to normal lives and adjust to changes
and trauma as a result of burn related accidents.
- Work with hospital staff to achieve the best
possible results to
hospitalisation both for the burn survivor and their caregivers.
- Provide home visits as and where necessary to assist
burn survivors and their caregivers to adjust and return to normal lives
within the community.
- Organise Family Days
for burn survivors and their caregivers approximately every six or eight
weeks along with the Family Day Subcommittee.
- Organise an Annual
Burn Camp for burn survivors and their caregivers during February
each year along with the Camp Subcommittee.
- Foster linkages
and working associations with other organisation throughout New Zealand
involved in similar and/or related activities. E.g. The Fire Service,
Maori Health Providers etc.
- Work with the Education Officer
from time to time to present Burn Prevention Information as opportunities
may offer.
- Be available to present our displays
(large file) and distribute our burn prevention material
to expo's and similar events when possible.
C. Accountability
- Be accountable and responsible to the Board
of Waikato Burn Support for all activities and present to the Board a
monthly report of all activities and events in which you participate and/or
Organise.
D. Term of Appointment:
- The contract period is for twelve months from the date of
appointment.
