Waikato Burn Support Charitable Trust
Annual General Meeting 1 May 2007
Education Officer's Report
Waikato
Burn Su ort Charitable Trust: Education Officer Colleen Caldwell.
It has been a very busy start to Term two of the school year. This term is
booked up completely and many of those weeks will be full-time to get through
the demand for winter educational programmes.
In week five I will be attending an Injury Prevention Network of Aotearoa New
Zealand course in Hamilton for 4 days. This also includes assessments that run
over a number of weeks to complete the requirements for the course. The course
is entitled Foundation Certificate in Injury Prevention and carries a waiting of
four unit standards. This course will be my professional development for 2007
and I'm sure I will benefit greatly from the experience.
I am happy to report that Waikato Bum Support has purchased a 2002 Toyota
Corolla TS automatic Vehicle. After viewing a number of vehicles and a variety
of possible options, Valley Toyota in Thames were able to offer a good trade in
for the Scepter, a free tank of petrol, two free services, current WOF and
Registration and are supplying sign writing for the vehicle.
After some discussion with Julie and Vera, I have decided to have the sign
writing done on a more understated level, in keeping with what seems to be the
current trend for health promotion and educational services. On both front doors
there will be the wording Waikato Burn Support Charitable Trust´. Underneath
this will be “Education Officer - my cell number". The Burn Support Logo will
also be on the front doors. On the rear bumper will be in large letters our
website address. Added to this will be acknowledgment of the Lions Sponsorship
and also Valley Toyota Support.
I have now been driving the car for two weeks and it is wonderful. I would like
to express my thanks to Vera, Pam and Julie for all their support and help with
purchasing the car.
The programme is evolving and developing into a very community orientated
programme and I can see that we will continue to educate the children within the
Waikato area well into the future. The programme is still being received in the
schools and kindergartens and throughout the community. MOH continue to fund the
programme and can see the benefits of providing this service in the Waikato. I
am very happy with the way the programme is going and plan to continue striving
to achieve the goals Waikato Burn Support have set out in our mission statement.
Thank you for continued support,
Regards
Colleen Caldwell
