Waikato Burn Support: Education Officer's Report to the AGM: May 2005

[Annual Reports & Articles]

Colleen CaldwellWhat’s happening in our schools and kindergartens in 2005?
By Colleen Caldwell (B.Tch) Education Officer

This year is a very exciting year with the introduction of our new “Whale bath Thermometers”. They have been well received with many thanks from all the schools and Kindergartens that I have visited so far this year.
I have also updated our educational resources for the teachers to photocopy and use in their classes. Lots of worksheets to colour in and quizzes to do. All these resources help to bring our “Burn Prevention” message home to the children and their families. I have had some wonderful feedback from Principals and teachers about the ongoing discussion that my visits have produced.
I have visited some very out of the way schools this year, reaching as far as Otunui School ( 15 kms from Taumaranui) where I was welcomed by a group of great students eager to learn and participate in our programme.
It has also been great to be able to include some Waikato Community groups in our client base and I have enjoyed being able to speak with mothers and family groups on “Burn Prevention” .
The next two school terms are very busy with a wide variety of visits booked in. The response to our programme is excellent and I have trouble keeping to a strict timetable at times as both staff and students have so many questions and stories to impart. All part of the learning experience. Feel free to contact me if you would like to discuss our services .
Kind Regards to all.
