Lions ChequeOhaupo Ngahinapouri Lions outgoing President Faye Coxhead had much pleasure in presenting the HUGE cheque to Paul Evans-McLeod, President of Waikato Burn Support, and Trish Ball, Field Officer.   (Please click the thumbnail to see a larger picture.)

In May 1993 this small Club which has a membership of 23 undertook to assist the Field Officer of Waikato Burn Support - raising funds for the purchase of a vehicle for educational purposes.  Such was the effect of raising $5,000 towards the vehicle and the ultimate success of the project that when the vehicle was due for replacement in March this year, Waikato burn Support Field Officer, Trish Ball, approached Lions again to assist.

District Governor Brian Hudson approved the request and forwarded the letter of request back to Ohaupo Ngahinapouri Lions resulting in a letter being sent to all Clubs in District 202C.  Ohaupo Ngahinapouri is one of 6 Lions Clubs in Zone 6.  Clubs in this Zone generously supported the project.  In all 17 clubs made considerably large donations, while two Clubs wished to contribute but were unable to at this point in time - due to all available funds being committed to other community projects.

Lion Foundation provided $6,000 for which we are very grateful.  This donation was forwarded immediately - in early May - to enable the transaction to proceed smoothly.  The Trust were advised that further contributions were still being received and that a further cheque would be forthcoming at the beginning of July.  Another cheque of $6,000 was duly forwarded, bringing the total to $12,000.

Trish Ball and Waikato Burn Support Trust Chairman,Paul speechless! Paul Evans-McLeod were presented with a celebratory cheque of suitably giant proportions on Tuesday evening.  (See picture)  It was noted that not often is Trish speechless - but on this occasion it was more like being spellbound!  She later admitted to having suffered from a severe attack of 'leaky eyes' during the presentation.  Paul also was noticeably silent for a short time when he tried to express appreciation to the Lions for their assistance in this way.  (Please click the thumbnail to see a larger picture.)

PresentationAnother outstanding contribution by Lions Participating and Serving in the Community.
