Ted Anderson is an Honorary Life Member of
Waikato Burn Support.
"Burn Support Members,
Trish,
It seems a long way back to 1992 when I was admitted to Ward 7 with a
critical Burn. I had been discharged from the same hospital the previous
day and sent home with an undiagnosed stroke. I had to wait three long
days for my condition to stabilise before my burn could be worked on.
It was during this time that Trish paid a visit and a special bond
developed between us.
I was inspired by Trish's enthusiasm and three months later attended a Burn Support meeting at the hospital.
I detected a sense of frustration with Trish wishing to set up an Education Programme and others not prepared to back it because of the
cost. I was sitting there in my wheelchair dressed in pyjamas when I said,
'I will be out of the hospital in a few weeks and I would find the necessary money to move Burn Support
Foreword'.
Two weeks after I left Ward 7 I presented a cheque for $1500 and a slide
projector to the committee to get the programme started.
Trish was so enthusiastic things really started to move, unfortunately
some committee members resigned in disagreement which was a great pity because they had done a splendid job getting burn support started.
Time has proven that Trish's enthusiasm was not misguided, her award of
the QSM was well earned and also a credit to the many individuals who have served the committee so well.
For my own part it was a special time and a pleasure to support someone's dream.
Trish, you have earned the love and respect of so many people and I know
that wherever you are your very special qualities will make a difference.
God Bless"
Ted Anderson.
